Just to clear things up, I keep ultima in my I drive. Black gate is in I:\play\ultima7\blckgate and Serpent Isle is in I:\play\ultima7\serpent

Did I screw up on the config?

<path>
I:\play\ultima7\blckgate
</path>

Path to the game not the static folder.

Strange. I fixed the problem but it still gives me the same message.

Reinstall Exult and in the installer point to the right path (not the static folder but the foler "above" that).
If that doesn't help, please copy/paste contents of stderr.txt and stdout.txt please http://exult.sourceforge.net/faq.php#bug_report
