 Patches on top of mods

Is it possible to create a small patch on top of a mod as an independent file?

Suppose I want to edit an NPC's dialog who isn't touched in the Keyring mod. I could, of course, add usecode to the mod's source and recompile, but is it possible to compile a small patch that will a) work on top of keyring and b) doesn't affect keyring's original source?

I know a patch can be added to the original U7 as ..\Exult\Ultima7\patch\usecode, but I see that mods ignore any patches in there.

Nope, not possible; the only way is to edit the mod.

I was thinking about it the wrong way anyway. If I'm organized with the includes, it's essentially the same thing as I was asking for.
