Don't even ask me how I figured this out. I can only assume that my total ignorance of linux let me stumble across this quick and easy fix for using Exult on a 5500e with 3.1x Sharp ROM and Qtopia
Install the IPK and related libs, then edit the /home/zaurus/.exult.cfg file in a text editor. Simply insert the static paths (in my case, under the exult-data directory on my CF card) between the <path></path> marks.
Eg:
<path>
/mnt/cf/exult-data/bg
</path>
Don't as me, but for some reason, although the user account is changed to "zaurus" instead of "root" the default config file includes all the /home/zaurus references... Maybe somebody changed something?
